Over 400 people attended the Delaware Veterans Home’s (DVH) Resident and Caregiver Appreciation Carnival on May 30th in Milford, including residents, their families and staff.
Those gathered celebrated the liberties that have been secured by the brave men and women who have fallen in battle and whose legacy Memorial Day—traditionally observed on May 30th—was created to honor. The event began with a period of observance for fallen soldiers.
During the more lighthearted portion of the Carnival, many DVH residents spent time outside with their loved ones while they listened to music, danced, and participated in various games. Among the many activities offered were horse and pony rides, a dunking booth, fire truck rides with the Milford Fire Department, and a K-9 police demonstration by the Delaware State Police and Milford Police Department. Other entertainment was provided by the Diamond State Quartet, the Bayside Four, Blue Hen Country, Raymond Sheridan, and the Miss Milford/Coastal Bay Scholarship Organization.
More than 50 volunteers assisted throughout the day, including members of the Milford Elks Lodge, members of the American Legion, and off-duty DVH employees. The event was fully funded by contributions from veterans’ service organizations and auxiliaries, other community groups, local businesses, and DVH staff.
