In preparation for Delaware’s statewide primary election on Tuesday, September 9, the Delaware Commissioner of Elections Elaine Manlove and the Department of State’s Government Information Center (GIC) wish to remind Delaware’s voters about the availability of online polling place maps.
Using the popular interactive Google™ Maps service, voters can now find their polling place and obtain directions to and from that location with relative ease through the Commissioner of Elections webpage.
“This online service will hopefully reduce the confusion that many people feel the first time they need to vote in a new location,” said Ms. Manlove.
The polling place locator maps are the latest in a series of successful online maps produced as part of a pilot project by the GIC in conjunction with other state agencies. This project has also yielded a comprehensive online map of all of Delaware’s public schools, libraries, and one that displays the locations of the state’s historical markers.
“The Government Information Center works hard to provide online content that is both useful and easy to use,” said Secretary of State Harriet Smith Windsor. “We can serve a wide variety of consumers by employing existing programs such as Google™ Maps and adapting them to better serve a local audience.”
Late last year the Department of Elections, with the assistance of the GIC, mapped polling places on a smaller scale for the 14th Senate District and 28th Representative District special elections and went statewide with the service for the Presidential Primary in February. The maps on the Commissioner of Elections website will also be available for the November general election.
