July 26, 2005
Dover, July 25, 2005 - Secretary of State Harriet Smith Windsor today presented a check for $15,000 to the Board of Directors for the Friends of the John Dickinson Mansion. The funds will be used for the planning of next year's Colonial Faire at the 18th-century mansion and plantation in Dover. The Faire will celebrate the John Dickinson Mansion's 50th anniversary as a public museum.
"It is exciting to be a part of the planning of the 50th anniversary celebration and to support the Colonial Faire," Secretary Windsor said. "I enjoy having the opportunity to work with the Friends of the John Dickinson Mansion, a very dedicated group that is committed to preserving Delaware's history."
Secretary Windsor presented the award to Eunice Craig, President of the Friends of the John Dickinson Mansion. "Without exception, the members of the board are appreciative of the Secretary's generous contribution and her gracious presentation of it," Craig said. The John Dickinson Plantation is a National Historical Landmark. Dickinson, the "penman of the American Revolution," was a framer and signer of the U.S. Constitution from Delaware. He wrote many political documents as a member of the Continental Congress and later served as Chief Executive of Delaware and Pennsylvania.
