Secretary of State Windsor Honors Winners
of Governor's Youth Volunteer Service Awards

April 21, 2005

Secretary of State Harriet Smith Windsor presents the Governor's Youth Volunteer Service Awards to the Westville 4-H Club, which has carried out numerous community service projects, from collecting books for Read Aloud Delaware to assisting the family of a child with cancer.DOVER - On April 20, 2005, Secretary of State Harriet Smith Windsor presented the 2004/2005 Governor's Youth Volunteer Service Awards to 25 individuals and 10 groups of young people. More than 400 people joined the Secretary of State at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover to honor these young people for their outstanding volunteer and community service to Delaware.

“We know that youth volunteers in Delaware are a powerful force for positive change,” Secretary Windsor said. “We see this through the growing number of high school students receiving the Delaware Volunteer Credit” and in students participating in Service-Learning programs throughout the state.

These young people participate in such diverse activities as organizing food drives, mentoring younger students, counseling their peers, and leading environmental programs. These award recipients are representative of Delaware’s youth who are making a positive contribution to society and inspiring others to do the same.

Secretary of State Harriet Smith Windsor presents the Governor's Youth Volunteer Service Awards to the cadets of the Delaware Wing, Civil Air Patrol. The cadets engage in extensive emergency response training and volunteer at events throughout the state.Referring to a book she is writing entitled “You Never Know Who's Watching, What They're Seeing, and What a Difference It Can Make,” Windsor told the students, “You are an inspiration to those around you—perhaps more than you know.”

The Secretary thanked the recipients “for giving of your time and talents in such creative and meaningful ways,” and she thanked the teachers, parents, and adult volunteers who assist the young people’s efforts.

Below is a list of the young people from throughout the state who were honored.
