Board of Pardons Renders a Decision on Judith McBride's Commutation Petition
March 31, 2006
Dover -- The Board of Pardons considered the application of Judith A. McBride for a commutation of sentence. During executive sessions of the Board on February 23 and March 23, 2006, the Board considered the following: (1) the extensive written record, including correspondence, reports, affidavits and case and institutional histories; (2) extensive testimony offered during the February 23 hearing by witnesses on behalf of, and opposed to, McBride's application; (3) the State's opposition to the application, as presented by the representative of the Department of Justice. After considering and weighing all of the information presented to the Board, including the length of time served (26 years), the undisputed evidence that the applicant poses no threat to the safety of others or society in general, the Department of Correction's support for the application, and the unanimous support of the Board of Parole for the application, the Board of Pardons recommends a commutation of sentence for Judith A. McBride from a life sentence without the possibility of parole to a life sentence with the possibility of parole.
